LTSP-Ubuntu Breezy Milestone available
I'm happy to announce that the Ubuntu guys have made great progress in integrating LTSP into the next release of Ubuntu (Breezy Badger).

We're looking for people to do some testing, so all of you out there who have been anxiously awaiting this, now's your chance.

I've created a wiki page with information for getting started:

http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/LtspBreezyTest

I'll add more info to that page as time goes on.

Please, if you've got a spare machine to test with, give this a try. We really want to shake out all the bugs, before the final release in October.

LTSP at the IDG Linux Event in Romania!
The yearly Linux & Open Source event held by IDG Romania at the World Trade Center in Bucharest hosted a presentation of the Linux Terminal Server Project. For about an hour Dragos Manac, Lead Operations of System & Network Solutions, explained the LTSP arhitecture and benefits to the audience - techies, business, goverment and press. During the event there was a LTSP workshop with hardware provided by IBM Romania, so everyone got a chance to see how it works and try it out! The impact was great, the audience asked lots of questions and some decided to start test implementations of their own.

Cutter Project Using LTSP
The Cutter Project has been set up in the UK to provide commercially supported turnkey desktop systems for education and business users. Existing desktop PCs are used as LTSP clients to applications servers running both Linux and Microsoft Windows, giving coverage of all major applications. A shared filesystem gives users full transparency of data. Cutter focuses on carefully selected packages and hardware options to ensure high availability and radically lowered support and maintenance costs. The systems and support will be sold through distributors as well as directly.

I can't tell you how good it was to see a classroom of 40 kids all logging in to KDE as if it was the most natural thing in the world. You know intellectually that they are going to do it, but to see it happening .... a great feeling!

LTSP ISO image now available to ease download pains
I've gotten tons of complaints lately about the problems with downloading the LTSP packages using ltspadmin (the ltsp installer). It turns out that SourceForge has started throttling the connections for large file downloads from their website.

We're working on adding mirroring support to ltspadmin, and this will greatly improve the installation experience. But, until we get this finished, I've created an ISO image of the LTSP packages. You can configure ltspadmin to grab the packages from the ISO image. Click here for instructions.

LTSP at LinuxWorld - Call for Volunteers
It's that time of year again.

Linux World is invading the San Francisco area the week of August 2nd. There will be tutorials on Monday the 2nd, and the exhibit area will be open Tuesday through Thursday (Aug 3rd-5th).

As usual, LTSP will have a booth in the .Org pavillion.

This has been an awful lot of fun at previous shows, and I'm sure it'll be good this time too.

If you've got a few hours to kill (or more), we'd definately like to have you help out at the booth.

And, in keeping up with the tradition, we'll have the LTSP Dinner on Wednesday, Aug 4th. This is a chance to relax and have alot of fun with many of the LTSP Developers and Users.

The link to Linux World Conference & Expo - San Francisco is:

http://www.linuxworldexpo.com/live/12/events/12SFO04A/
If you want to come and help out at one of the busiest booths in the entire exhibit hall, please send me an email and let me know which day(s) and times you can be there.

Thanks, and looking forward to seeing you all there.
